YOUR CLOTHES DON'T HAVE TO LOOK LIKE EVERYONE ELSE'S!
What if an ordinary jean jacket, pair of jeans, T-shirt, tote bag, or other piece of clothing could become a completely original work of art?
Welcome to MandyLand Wearable Art, a colorful, hands-on after-school art experience where kids get to become the ARTIST and the DESIGNER!
Throughout this 5-week workshop, students will learn how to take clothing and accessories and make them uniquely their own through painting, drawing, color, pattern, embellishment, upcycling, and beginner fashion-design techniques.
Instead of trying to make everything look "perfect," kids will be encouraged to experiment, play, take creative risks, and discover their own artistic style.
Because in MandyLand, we don't all have to look the same.
We get to make it OURS.
WHAT WE'LL CREATE
Each student will choose clothing and/or accessories to transform throughout the workshop.
Projects may include:
- Jean jackets
- Jeans or denim shorts
- T-shirts
- Canvas sneakers
- Tote bags
- Hats
- Patches
- Fabric accessories
- Upcycled clothing from home or the thrift store
Students will be encouraged to bring pieces they already own that could use a little more personality!
We'll explore ways to completely transform them using fabric paint, fabric markers, stencils, drawing, patterns, patches, embellishments, hand sewing, and more.
WEEKLY BREAKDOWN
WEEK 1 — FIND YOUR STYLE
What makes something feel like YOU?
We'll explore color, pattern, fashion, artwork, favorite things, symbols, words, characters, and inspiration.
Students will create their own mini Wearable Art Inspiration Board and sketch ideas for the pieces they'd like to transform.
We'll learn how artists and fashion designers take an idea from their imagination and begin turning it into something real.
WEEK 2 — PAINT YOUR CLOTHES!
Now the transformation begins!
Students will learn how to safely use fabric paints and fabric markers to add their artwork directly onto clothing.
We'll experiment with:
- Painting
- Drawing
- Stencils
- Shapes
- Patterns
- Lettering
- Color combinations
- Layering designs
There is no single "right" way for their clothes to look.
The goal is to create something no one else in the world has.
WEEK 3 — UPCYCLE + EMBELLISH
This week is all about taking something ordinary and making it extraordinary.
Kids will experiment with adding details such as:
- Patches
- Fabric scraps
- Buttons
- Ribbons
- Trim
- Beads
- Painted details
- Hand-drawn designs
- Simple hand stitching
We'll talk about upcycling and how artists can use creativity to give old clothes and materials an entirely new life instead of always buying something new.
WEEK 4 — MAKE IT EVEN MORE YOU
More color. More personality. More imagination!
Students will continue developing their wearable-art pieces and adding the little details that make their designs feel finished.
We'll explore mixing techniques—painting + patches, drawing + stitching, patterns + embellishments—and learn how layering different ideas can completely change a piece of clothing.
Students will also begin thinking about how they want to STYLE their finished wearable art.
WEEK 5 — MANDYLAND FASHION SHOW!
Time to wear the ART!
Students will put the finishing touches on their creations and style an outfit featuring something they've transformed during the workshop.
Then we'll celebrate with our own mini:
MANDYLAND WEARABLE ART FASHION SHOW + ARTIST SHOWCASE!
Kids will have the opportunity to show off their finished designs, share their favorite creation, and celebrate everything they made.
They'll leave with wearable artwork that isn't available in any store...
because THEY created it.
SPECIAL MANDYLAND STUDIO OPTION
Students who attend the small-group workshop at MandyLand Studio will also have the opportunity to be introduced to Mandy's sewing machine!
Depending on age, comfort level, and the individual project, students may learn simple beginner sewing-machine skills with close supervision and use stitching to add creative details to their wearable art.
No sewing experience is necessary.
ABOUT MANDY
Led by Mandy Tardif, a local artist, art teacher, and creative mentor with 25 years of experience working with kids, MandyLand workshops are about so much more than making a finished art project.
Mandy believes creativity gives kids an opportunity to discover their own ideas, develop confidence, use their imagination, and experience the incredible feeling of being able to say:
"I MADE THIS!"
Every class is designed to provide a supportive, playful environment where young artists can experiment, make mistakes, try something unexpected, and discover their own creative voice.

WHAT TO BRING
Students will be asked to bring 1–3 clean clothing items or accessories from home that they have permission to permanently alter.
Thrifted and secondhand pieces are HIGHLY encouraged!
Mandy will provide the primary art materials, tools, paints, and creative supplies used throughout the workshop.
SPACES ARE LIMITED!
Small class sizes allow each young artist to receive individual attention, encouragement, and help bringing their ideas to life.
